Principal PHP Engineer

The Principal Software Engineer is part Software Engineer, part mentor, part team champion.  Your main role will  be focused on code quality, successful delivery of releases on time, quality of documentation, and communication with customers; while an important secondary role will be to gather feedback from your team, to communicate business objectives and strategies to them, and to be a champion on behalf of them to the business, and the Head of Development specifically.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Estimate time and resources required to perform development tasks within defined timescales.
  • Mentor and support members of the software engineering team to improve their performance and outcomes against their own performance objectives. 
  • Take ownership over processes that lead to successful and high quality code releases, and implement improvements in those processes whenever required.
  • Liaise with customers in client meetings to provide clear information and explanation about technical solutions that the organisation is providing them, and answer questions in a manner that they will understand.
  • Working with relevant team Principals and Head of Development to; 
    • Help to maintain project environments by liaising with the infrastructure team to ensure that there are sufficient resources available. 
    • Define and maintain the overarching development strategy for the organisation.
    • Plan effective and strategic resourcing across a number of active new and support projects.
  • Review and assess CVs and conduct interviews to recruit quality individuals into the organisation.

You’ll bring the following to our team:

  • Strong  previous relevant industry experience as a Senior Software Engineer.
  • Proven experience using PHP 7 or PHP 8, with demonstrable experience of using OOP principles as well as HTML.
  • Experience working with, and developing within, MVC frameworks.
  • Experience in carrying out code reviews, pair programming, and other techniques that ensure high standards of code quality.

Salary:

  • £50,000 – 60,000
