Head of Engineering

Helastel has ambitious growth plans, in order to achieve our goals we are building a strong management team to support the organisation. The Head of Engineering (HoE) will be part of the senior management team and will be a key link between the technical, finance, operations and commercial teams.  

Responsible for the direct management of the technical  teams, comprising key disciplines including analysis, development and test.  The role will also require working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure that the business and technical strategy is achievable, monitored and communicated effectively to the wider business.   

Collaborating with the technical team, sales, marketing, finance and operational departments in order to ensure the company and departmental strategies are at the forefront of delivery to customers and any internal process improvements will  be fundamental.

Job purpose

  • Manage performance against and report on engineering P&L
  • Maximisation of department efficiency and output
  • Assurance of clear, realistic technical deliverables to expected quality standards

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the senior management team in order to achieve the wider organisation goals
  • Develop  the technical team and enhance their capabilities to meet needs of the business
  • Maximise performance against agreed KPIs including billable targets for each technical discipline, by managing costs and delivering the forecasted levels of recognised revenue 
  • Ensure delivery risks and conflicting priorities are suitably communicated and controlled in collaboration with the senior management team
  • Manage and report on quality of delivery of the engineering department by improving upon the reporting & KPI suite in order to encourage a forum for cross departmental understanding and inform on the key issues arising
  • Implement new systems within the team to ensure that efficiency and effectiveness are maximised for the team and the wider business

Experience/qualifications

Essential 

  • Extensive experience managing technical staff through cross-functional projects in a similar organisation
  • Experience of leading delivery of software projects to budget and timescales
  • Experience delivering to and meeting commercial goals
  • Running a mature software development life-cycle
  • A proven track-record of consistent project delivery of complex, interactive consumer sites/software
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of leading technologies and industry best practices

Desirable

  • Technical background in software industry (engineering, project management or similar)

 

Salary band: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum
